How To Freshen Up Your Home For Spring

27/02/2022

[AD] Do you see what I see? Blue skies and sunshine (for the most part), Mother’s Day cards and Easter eggs on supermarket shelves, daffodils peeping through and even slightly lighter evenings. Spring is officially just around the corner and after another dreary winter, I can’t wait. So much so, that I thought I’d share how you can freshen up your home for Spring whether that’s with a bunch of flowers or some new prints from the Poster Store. Who else is ready to jump into the next season? Also, stay tuned until the end of this post to grab a discount code to get 35% off selected posters later in this post!

Crack on with some spring cleaning

Let’s start with the basics. Before you get stuck into the ‘exciting’ stuff, you’ll feel much better if you’ve given your house a big ol’ deep clean. Getcha rubber gloves on and start scrubbing/dusting/vacuuming/polishing/cleaning and you’ll be amazed how much fresher your house can feel when it’s all spick and span.

Out with the old

Following on from my previous point, Spring is the perfect opportunity to have a massive clear out of all your belongings whether that’s your wardrobe, kitchen cupboards or garden shed. Bag up your unwanted items for charity shops or homeless shelters and free yourself of all that clutter!

Pick up some flowers

Nothing screams Spring more than a bunch of daffodils. Am I right? Flowers make me so genuinely happy so I try to pick up a bunch on my weekly shop (you can often find bunches for £1-2) and pop them in my favourite vase to make me smile every time I walk into the kitchen. They instantly brighten up a room and if you look after them properly, they can last a while (especially carnations which can last a few weeks in my house)!

Mix up your prints

Swapping your existing prints for something else can often freshen things up, especially as you’re used to seeing the same things every day. I like replacing darker prints with white/colourful alternatives and also changing up the frames. It’s amazing how much a white or gold frame can brighten up some artwork!

Brighten your home accessories

Autumn/Winter home decor can often feel quite dark and cosy so why not brighten things up for Spring with some colour and lighter tones. That might mean switching your bedding, cushions and blankets for lighter textures and colours (linen always works well) and changing up accessories like vases and plant pots for a brighter alternative.

Add a lick of paint

Whether it’s the same colour or something new, a lick of paint to walls, doors and furniture is a sure fire-way to freshen up your home for Spring when things are feeling a bit stale. It doesn’t have to break the bank and is a DIY job you can nail in a day or two then sit back, relax and enjoy a much cleaner feeling room!

Swap your fragrances

It’s finally time to ditch the warming and cosy feeling scents for something a little lighter and more floral. You’ll instantly notice the difference and you could even change up your cleaning products too!

Get out in the garden

If you have a garden or even a balcony area, make the most of the sunny days and get outside for a spot of gardening. That could involve jet washing a patio, cutting the grass, tending to the overflow of dead leaves in your flower beds or once the frosts are over, planting some bulbs! I always feel so refreshed after a few hours in the garden and it’s so rewarding when the flowers start to bloom and everything looks so pretty! And if you don’t have any outdoor space, you can still get your greenfingers on and make a mini herb garden for your windowsill!

I really hope you’ll be able to freshen up your home for Spring with these tips and I really can’t wait for the temperature to rise and the days to get longer. Just think, we’re only a few months away from BBQs, outdoor cinemas and picnics!

If you like the look of the prints I’ve styled, you can nab yourself 45% off on all posters (except Selection Posters and frames) using the code KATY45 on Poster Store until 27 March. This discount is not combinable with other discount campaigns but it’s still a pretty impressive discount, almost half price!
