Four Tips For Brightening Your Smile

One of the first things I notice about someone is their teeth. Not that I stare at someone’s mouth for the whole of a conversation and look like a complete weirdo (most of the time anyway) but I just can’t help but notice people’s gnashers. This is why when I was younger I had braces to sort out my crooked tombstones and now at the age of 21, I’m forever typing ‘how to whiten your teeth’ into Google.

Use whitening toothpaste

When you think about whitening your teeth, the first solution you’ll probably think of is whitening toothpaste. I’ve tried so many over the years and even though they don’t actually change the colour of your teeth, after continual use, you’ll start to notice your teeth becoming brighter as more and more stains are removed from your teeth. I’ve also noticed with whitening toothpastes that the cheap ones simply don’t work, you definitely get what you pay for!

As you can see from the pictures, I’ve got quite a variety of whitening toothpastes at the moment. I was kindly send all of these from Splat Oral Care who pride themselves on providing ethically and naturally sourced oral care solutions and have quite an array of different flavours. I’ve had the coconut, propoline and charcoal flavours to try out over the last few months and yes you heard me right.. Coconut flavoured toothpaste!

These products have gone down a treat at home as they do what they say on the tin, well tube, and gently whiten your teeth and improve the health of your mouth in general. The Blackwood Charcoal Toothpaste is my personal favourite, purely because I don’t like the taste of the other two and because it’s the best whitening toothpaste I’ve ever tried whereas my brother prefers the Biomed Superwhite Toothpaste with Coconut. It’s worth given them a go as they’re so easy to get hold of on Amazon, Superdrug and soon to be Sainsbury’s and they also do vegan toothpaste as well!

Drink from a straw

Whenever I can, I try to drink through a straw (despite the recent ban) as I remember Gabbie talking about it in one of her videos ages ago and it’s just stuck with me. It can prevent your teeth from staining as it reduces the amount of liquid which comes into contact with them and it’s such simple and easy thing to do so you might as well give it a try!

Choose your lip colour wisely

I always do my research on lipstick shades and ensure I’m using a more blue-toned colour as it can create the illusion of whiter teeth. Just try to stay away from orangey shades which make your teeth look more yellow, or at least they do in my case anyway! In the colder months, I also really love wearing super dark berry lipstick because in what world can’t that make your teeth look like you’ve stepped out of TOWIE?

Cut down on darker substances

Red wine, coffee and smoking are renowned for dulling and staining your teeth so if you’re one of those people who can’t get by without their morning coffee, then just remember what it could be doing to your teeth! Saying that, I’ve heard even if you do drink a lot of darker drinks then you should try having a couple of sips of water in between each drink to wash the liquid away from your teeth. I’m quite fortunate that I can’t stand tea, coffee or red wine so I don’t really have to worry about them however I am a smoker of six years. That means I am extremely lucky that my teeth haven’t stained even though they are considerably more yellow than a non-smoker’s. Don’t smoke kids!
