Avoiding Dry Lips This Winter

What’s the point of wearing dark vampy shades around this time of year when beneath the colour your lips are dry and chapped? You need a good base to really let your lips do the talking so here’s a helping hand with how to avoid dry lips this winter.

Vitamin B.

According to my Beauty Bible, vitamin B is an essential in our winter diet to prevent dry skin as it helps to maintain moisture. Avocado, bananas and potatoes are great for this as well as tasting amazing. Also remember to drink plenty of water, dehydration can really effect your lips so make sure you get those eight glasses down your neck a day!

Don’t lick.

Just because you lick your lips it doesn’t mean you’re moisturising them, in fact it makes them a lot worse by removing natural oils from your lips. I know it can be tempting but try and use a lip balm regularly which isn’t flavoured. You’ll soon be turned off by the dull taste of petroleum jelly!

I love using lip exfoliators when I have dry lips, they’re miracle workers I tell you! Restrain from using them too often as you need to allow the cells to repair and remember to use a moisturiser after. Tip: If you don’t have a lip exfoliator then you can always whack on a load of lip balm and lightly use a soft toothbrush to brush off the dead cells or you can even create your own with some sugar and honey!

Moisturise religiously.

Never let that lip balm leave your sight during the colder months as you’ll really need it. It’s best to apply your lip balm after you drink, eat or touch your lips. I love to apply a thick coating as well when I’m doing my makeup and before I go to sleep. Trust me, it’s your new best friend.

I lovelovelove this post! My lips are absolutely terrible for drying out at this time of year, and the feeling is just awful. It means I can't wear pretty lipsticks much, so if you're like me, I'd suggest a tinted lip balm, so you get that moisturisation, but still have a bit of colour on your smackers x

I've suffered so bad already with chapped lips and it's not even December yet. I love the baby lips to keep my lips feeling moisturised. Great blog.
