Lockdown has been a real eye opener for me and made me question a lot of things. Do I really need to spend hundreds of pounds a month at the pub? Which of my friends have I missed seeing the most? Do I give myself enough time to chill out? Anyway, it got me thinking about how life will be different when we go back to ‘normal’ (whatever that may be) and what things I’ll change about my life after lockdown.
A few months ago I wrote a blog post about things I want to make more time for and that, of course, included reading. Up until that point, I’d read sweet FA but since lockdown, I’ve THREE books. Yes, THREE! I’m sure some people could probably read three in a week but for me, that’s a big achievement. I’ve surprised myself by actually enjoying reading as well which I was not expecting at all! After lockdown, I’m going to make sure I carry on reading and hit my 10 book goal!
Shoot photos from home
Shooting outfits has always been tricky for me working six days a week and then dragging Toby or Sam out on my day off to stand in the rain or wind and impatiently click the shutter button 600 times for me to realise my hair looks wrong. Can you relate? Shooting photos at home with the luxury of great lighting, a tripod and a viewfinder minus people staring or the need to get changed in the car has been a big hit for me. I’ve noticed an increase in engagement on my Instagram and I actually enjoy taking the photos so who knows? Even though we can return to shooting in the big, bad world, I might continue to stay inside and create my content from the comfort of my own home and sliders (which are conveniently cropped out of photos).
Explore my local area more
I really am blessed to live in the countryside (except for the pheasants which will always scare the shit out of me), especially at a time like lockdown where I had fields upon fields to walk through and explore and my friend’s farm just five minutes down the road. But with more support for independent shops and local businesses arising in the village Facebook groups I’m apart of, it’s made me realise just how many places I haven’t visited. So after lockdown, I’d really like to discover new cafes, restaurants and shops as well as get out the house more and explore my local area whether that’s wandering through woods to find the perfect picnic spot or driving to a nearby village I haven’t visited before.

Spend less time at the pub
Fucking hell I really can’t believe I just typed that but it’s true. Before lockdown, I would spend at least four or five nights a week at the pub. That doesn’t necessarily mean I was getting drunk but it normally involved a lot of late nights, beer and portions of chips (with ketchup and mayo because I am THAT person) which was hitting my bank balance H A R D. The last however many weeks have taught me that I don’t need the pub to survive and that ALDI’s stubby beers are waaaay cheaper than an Amstel top at my local.
Spend more time in the garden
We are so bloody lucky to have our own garden and I can’t believe it’s taken us until lockdown combined with 25 degree heat to realise it. I really do feel for anyone stuck in a sweaty flat in London with no access to a bit of greenery because it’s really made this whole thing much easier. From now on, I’d really like to spend more time in the garden; planting, weeding, deadheading, hoovering the grass (yes, you read that right – it’s artificial!), having BBQs and making the most of the outdoor space we have!
Is there anything you wanna change about your life after lockdown?
