Six Ways You Can Be More Of A Morning Person

Go to bed early, wake up early has been my routine ever since I can remember. My parents are both early birds (was going to say family but I don’t think my brother sees the light of day til about 3 pm) and I’ve clearly just inherited the capability to start my day at 7.30. Fortunately for me, I’m also a morning person, otherwise being an early riser would be a struggle for not only me but anyone I interact with.. Especially considering I’m not a coffee drinker! However, I understand that not everyone can be a lark so this post is for those of you who can’t deal with functioning earlier than 12 noon on how to be more of a morning person!

Getting a good night’s sleep

In order to wake up feeling refreshed and like a boss, you’ll need to have a decent night’s sleep beforehand otherwise you’ve got no hope! Maybe it’s time to start switching off technology before your bedtime or you could even be in need of a new mattress! I’ve written a long old post before about how my Leesa mattress completely transformed my sleeping routine and there’s even a discount code in that post too if you want to save yourself some pennies! Alternatively, you might need to cut down on caffeine as it’s the absolute worst when you’re trying to doze off! You’ll find that if you sleep well, the struggle will be far easier the next day and you won’t feel as groggy!

Have a set alarm time

Even though I’ve moaned about it in the past, having a set ‘wake up’ time definitely helps with being a morning person. I’ve got such a set in stone sleeping routine that I never wake up past 7.30, even on the weekends! It can be a massive pain in the arse when I’m hanging or haven’t gone to bed til 2 am but waking up at the same time every single day will help your body get used to being alert and active at that time which will certainly help you in your quest to become a morning person. Also, avoid the snooze button at all costs… It will only make waking up even more of a chore!

Prepare the night before

Getting stuff ready the night before it’s needed has been drummed into me ever since I was little. Mum always made sure I had my PE kit, homework, lunch or whatever it was ready the night before school to dodge the morning panic and rushing around. Translated into adult life, that roughly means sorting your outfit, making your lunch, getting your uni work together and packing your gym stuff the night before to avoid last minute hassle if you need to get up and out quickly!

Don’t laze around

Once you’re awake, get your arse out of bed and make it. It’s been proven that making your bed can increase your productivity for the day and means your less likely to get back into it! The worst thing you can do is laze around in the morning so make sure you get involved with doing something straight away whether that’s heading downstairs to make a coffee, getting dressed or jumping in the shower.

Hit the gym

If you had told me this time last year that I’d be driving to the gym at 7.45 in the morning, I would’ve laughed in your face. In fact, I still can’t quite believe I voluntarily choose to go to the gym at that time on the weekend.. I sound like a proper loon don’t I? Buuuuut, it’s honestly the best way to start your day! I feel like such a knob saying that but I feel so much better once I’ve been to the gym and it puts me in such a good mood for the rest of the day (unless, I get stuck behind someone driving at 20 in a 50). Yanno, endorphins and all that!

Write a to do list the night before

Oh us bloggers do love a to do list don’t we? I’ve found that writing it the night before means once I’m up the next day, I can just crack on straight away without having to fanny around trying to remember what the things I needed to do were.

I could go on forever about the secrets to becoming a morning person but let’s be honest, not everyone wants to be one! I think the basics are getting an early night and setting an alarm but we’re all different and what works for me, might not work for you. I suppose we won’t know til you try it out!

    Becoming a morning person starts with the night before. Many people tend to forget about this – if you sleep early, and get a quality sleep. There’s no reason why you can’t wake up early. Anyway, love your sweater dear!

    These are such great tips! Writing a to-do list and knowing what you’re going to do the night before can be a great way to feel more motivated come the morning x

    I’ve started waking up at 6am for the past few months and preparing the night before (like meal prepping breakfast) helps so much. Knowing that there will be no mad dash in the morning actually makes me look forward to getting up Xx

    I think I need to just live your blog because the first few articles I saw fit exactly the things I am working on. I am trying to do this too so I was glad to read what you had to say about it. I struggle with the laze about part, especially because I often drift back to sleep. I once read that happier people do all the most important things they have to do early in the day (when they can) so they feel more in control of the rest of their day. That’s what I’m trying for now.

    I’m definitely a morning person, too, and think these are such great tips! Especially preparing everything the night before and resisting the temptation of the snooze button – it just makes everything that much harder! x

    I am trying my best to become a morning person, just for the benefit of my health. BUt I’ve already defeated that ideal as I’m writing this at 10:30pm – not too late, but you know. One thing I think I will start doing again is using my fitness watch for my sleep to track it, keeping on top of the number of hours is really motivating.

    I’m a night owl lol. On weekends and during holidays, I tend to be awake till 3 or 4 am and I wake up around 12pm 😅 I’ll try some of your tips. Thank you!
